Helping Young People

Many children, teenagers and students, struggle with every day low mood, worries, fears and panic. The more these symptoms are ignored or avoided, the worse it gets. Over time, these difficulties when left untreated, can impact on a young person’s social, school/University and home life. They can also start to affect confidence and self-esteem. This is when professional help may be needed.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective treatment for children and young people who are struggling to cope with anxiety, low mood and a wide range of other psychological and emotional difficulties.

At Bristol CBT Clinic, we provide highly specialist CBT assessment and treatment for children, teenagers and students. We are dedicated to only working with young people up to the age of 25 years and to offering CBT interventions which are evidence-based and highly effective.


Anxiety Problems

CBT is very effective for generalised anxiety, social phobia, separation anxiety, panic attacks and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Low Mood

CBT is recommended for treating Depression, Low self esteem and low self confidence.

OCD

CBT is strongly supported as a therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Other Conditions

Eating problems, anger management difficulties, sleep problems, body image concerns, physical health problems and health anxiety also respond well to CBT.

1. TELEPHONE CONSULTATION

If you are wondering if the CBT Clinic can help you, we offer a free, no-obligation 10 minute telephone consultation for young people or their parents.

2. FIRST APPOINTMENT

Your first assessment session will last between 60 and 75 minutes. Together we will develop a treatment plan with clear goals.

3. FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENTS

CBT sessions are offered over an agreed period of weekly/fortnightly 50 minute sessions.

As CBT is a time-limited and brief psychological therapy, the average number of sessions tends to be between 6 and 20.

Support for Professionals

The Bristol CBT Clinic has extensive experience of helping other professionals support young people with mental health problems.

We provide high quality CBT Supervision to Clinical and Counselling Psychologists and to CBT Therapists who are applying for or maintaining their professional accreditation. Supervision is also offered to other Therapists who use CBT skills in their work with young people. In addition to Supervision, we provide Training and Consultation. We have many years’ experience of helping teachers and a wide range of educational professionals at Schools, Colleges and Universities. We have also supported professionals working in Social Care, in Foster and Adoption Agencies and in other Statutory and Voluntary Agencies.
